David Silver, President
David Silver As a public relations and investor relations executive with an expertise in leadership communications for CEOs and senior management, David Silver has been managing successful strategic programs for law firms, corporations, investment banks, Wall Street firms and executives since 1987.

In 1987, Silver was recruited by Carl Terzian Associates as a senior account executive to help oversee the firm's financial and law firm clients. Silver proceeded to lead a team that won the prestigious PRSM award from the Public Relations Society of America for Crisis Communications. In 1994, he left to start Silver Public Relations, focusing on Mergers and Acquisitions PR and Restructuring/Bankruptcy PR.

Books
David Silver is currently writing a full-length book for J Ross Publishing on "Managing Corporate Communications in the Age of Restructuring, Crisis and Litigation" with major case studies such as Lehman Bros and Mattel v. MGA Entertainment, and Merck's Vioxx case. The book will provide strategies and solutions for communication problems corporations and companies in these three distressed situations. Publication date: 2010.

David Silver was one of 20 Wall Street experts chosen to write a chapter in the book: "The New Investor Relations: Expert Perspectives on the State of the Art," published in October 2003 by Bloomberg Press. In this chapter titled “The IR-PR Nexus,” Silver argues that for public companies to be transparent for investors, institutional holders, analysts, shareholders and the media in the post-Sarbanes-Oxley marketplace, CEOs must converge their public relations and investor relations functions.

Silver has written on financial and legal public relations issues for the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Business Journal and Los Angeles Daily Journal, California Law Business. On March 29, 2004, David Silver was interviewed and profiled in Investors Business Daily.

Speaking

David Silver is accredited by the State Bar of California to provide Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) sessions for lawyers at law firms and corporations and companies and bar associations in the state on “Managing the Litigation PR Process: When Public Opinion Matters.” This one-hour session gives all lawyers attending strategies on communications for either the plaintiffs of defendants in litigation and they receive one-hour of MCLE credit.

David Silver lectures on Mergers & Acquisitions and Restructuring/Bankruptcy PR, as well as Financial Public Relations, Litigation Public Relations, Crisis Communications Management and Investor Relations.

He spoke at an international symposium on investor relations in Mexico City on September 21-23, 2005, in front of close to 100 Mexican public companies and members of the Mexican Stock Exchange.

Silver was a panel speaker at the Public Relations Society of America International Conference in New York from October 23-26, 2004. He spoke on the topic of the IR-PR nexus and the importance of integrating both functions to provide consistent and strategic messages for the Wall Street audiences – buy-side and sell-side analysts, institutional holders, shareholders, the regulatory agencies and the media covering public companies.

He spoke in front of hundreds of executives on the convergence of public relations and investor relations at Wall Street companies at the International Public Relations Society of America Conference in New Orleans from October 25-28th, 2003.

David Silver has lectured at the Financial Executives International, Los Angeles chapter, UCLA and at USC.

Education

A graduate of UCLA (BA, MA) and USC (MA), David Silver distinguished himself in the academic arena by making the Dean's Honor list. Silver mentors MBA students at the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California and Silver has passed the rigorous eight-hour written and oral APR exam given by the Public Relations Society of America in 1999 and is accredited.

He is a graduate of the Investor Relations Certificate Program -- which includes seven rigorous classes -- at University of California, Irvine, which has been formulated in its extension program with the National Investor Relations Institute in Washington D.C.

Positions Held

In 2009, David Silver will become the Chair of the Executive Committee of the Financial Communications Section of the Public Relations Society of America. Members include financial communications executives at corporations, companies, agencies and financial institutions across the United States.

David Silver is a past board member of the Turnaround Management Association, Southern California chapter, serving as its chair for public relations.
